An authentic first-time arctic expedition
The cross country ski expedition course is organized by Dagali Fjellpark outdoor center. The course is led by a professional UIMLA mountain leader.
The course will be held in small groups (maximum of 7 clients and 1 leader), and consists of a preparatory part at Dagali Fjellpark base, followed by a 4-day backcountry cross country skiing expedition with wild winter camping in Hardangervidda NP mountains and its surroundings.
The course is intended as an arctic adventure for a wide range of cross-country skiing enthusiasts: basic cross-country skiing experience is necessary, but no winter camping experience or equipment is required. Previous cross-country skiing experience with pulk sleds is not necessary.

Program
- Day 1: Arrival to the base in Dagali.
- Day 2: Preparations for the expedition.
- Day 3 – 6: The real 4-day backcountry cross country ski adventure expedition with winter camping.
- Day 7: Reserve day, relaxation at the base, downhill skiing, toboggan run, hot tub, sauna, summary.
- Day 8: Departure.
Duration of the course is 7 nights, from Saturday to Saturday. Preliminary, the cross country ski expedition course program is planned as follows:
Day 1: Arrival, welcome, the leader meets clients at Dagali Fjellpark.
- Dinner at the base. During the dinner you will be welcomed by your leader and get a brief about the program and weather forecast.
- Aaccommodation in lavvo at the base.
Day 2: Preparations for the expedition. Getting to know the equipment, test construction of tents, test of pulk sleds (the sled weigh will be app. 25 kg), cooking trial, information about planning the cross-country ski adventure expedition tour. Inspection of personal and shared equipment. Packing and start of the cross-country ski adventure expedition. Ascent to the first wild camping place by the lake above the ski center.
- Breakfast and lunch at the base. Cooking the dinner in the camp.
- Today we will train everything essential for our expedition for a trail before we jump for real.
- In case of equipment or personal problems, the possibility of returning to the base, fixing the problem, and easily returning to the group using the ski lift.
Day 3: The real 4-day backcountry cross country ski adventure expedition begins. Section with the ski pulks: Perstulhovda – Storåstjønne – Syningan – Løytetjønne – Ormetjønnstølen – Tøddøla – Tøddølvatnet.
- 13,6 km, D+ 174 m, D- 159 m.
- We will tackle a tight river valley opened to a wide area of frozen lake. This day you will get more familiar with winter camping routine and how to use your equipment effectively.
- Preparation of hot breakfast in the camp, no-cook lunch and personal snacks during the day, preparation of hot dinner in the camp.
Day 4: Section without the ski pulks (the camp stays over the day): Skarvsvatnet – Ulvelilægeret – Ræpeholåsen (1321 m) – Ræpeholbekken – Tøddølvatnet.
- 19,4 km, D+ 270 m, D- 270 m.
- We will get higher to a beautiful semi-closed place over the camp with a vast panoramic view over the mountain plato from its the windy summits. But maybe we will just learn how to withstand severe arctic weather.
- Preparation of hot breakfast in the camp, no-cook lunch and personal snacks during the day, preparation of hot dinner in the camp.
Day 5: Section with the ski pulks: Tøddølvatnet – (Solheimstulen) – Kruketjønne – Mjågesjøen – Gamleseternuten.
- 14,4 km, D+ 328 m, D- 224 m.
- We will have a chance to have a break and get something to eat and drink at a typical Norwegian tourist cabin in the middle of the day. You should become more experienced about using your equipment and how to move easily with the sledges.
- Preparation of hot breakfast in the camp, no-cook lunch and personal snacks during the day, preparation of hot dinner in the camp.
Day 6: The last day of the cross-country ski adventure expedition. Sunrise at Synhovd (1437 m). Section with the ski pulks: Buvatn – Flåtåtjønne – Sønstevatn – Imingfjell.
- 15,6 km, D+ 245 m, D- 388 m.
- If we wake up early and be lucky, we will be rewarded with an overwhelming golden winter sunrise. This day we will enjoy downhill most of the time and train some specific downhill techniques with sledges.
- Transportation to Dagali Fjellpark.
- Preparation of hot breakfast in the camp, no-cook lunch and personal snacks during the day.
- Back at the base: unpacking, drying equipment, dinner, shower, sauna, hot tub. Accommodation in lavvo at the base.
Day 7: Reserve day in case the expedition is delayed due to weather or other difficulties. This day can be used for individual relaxation, local downhill skiing, fun at local racing toboggan run. The group can also use the hot tub, sauna, grill.
- At the end of the day, after the dinner, we stay together for a brief summary of our expedition and project photos from it. We can also talk about your future plans and how we can help you with them.
- Prepared breakfast, lunch and dinner at the base.
- Accommodation in lavvo at the base.
Day 8: Breakfast at the base. Departure. The leader stays at Dagali Fjellpark.
Price
14.100 NOK
The price includes:
- Guidance by UIMLA mountain leader,
- Meals – breakfast, lunch and dinner,
- Equipment rental, especially:
- High thermal comfort sleeping bag and mats, Tents, Skis, Ski poles, Snow shovel etc.
- Shared lodging in lavvo and tents,
- Group transportation from Oslo airport to the base and back according to the schedule,
- Activities at the base depending on the program: Racing Sledding, Downhill skiing, Rental of winter equipment, Hot tub, Sauna, Grill rental.
- Travel to Norway,
- Independent transportation from Oslo airport to the base and back other than according to the group transportation schedule (included in the price),
- Travel insurance, full health and accident insurance,
- Personal equipment (see the Personal equipment list),
- Any unforeseen expenses due to delays due to weather conditions or safety considerations, breaks or lodging at a mountain hut, which is not a part of the planned cross country ski expedition course program, but which can occur for a variety of reasons along the way.
Booking
Registration
Registration for the cross country ski expedition course can be done in writing via e-mail emilie@dagalifjellpark.no.
Fee payment
With the registration, a deposit of 25% is paid. The remaining payment will be done immediately after 10.1.2026. An invoice due in 3 days will be sent to the participants. In the case of booking the course after 10.1.2026, the full price invoice due in 3 days will be sent to the participants.
Withdrawal from the contract
The client has the right to withdraw from the contract in writing to emilie@dagalifjellpark.no at any time.
Cancellation conditions:
- If the client cancels 10.12.2025 or before, 100% of the deposit will be refunded.
- If the client cancels 11.12.2025 – 9.1.2026, 50% of the deposit will be refunded.
- If the client cancels 10.1.2026 or later, no refunds are possible.
Minimum number of participants
The minimum number of participants required for running the cross country ski expedition course is 4. If insufficient number of participants registers, the course may be cancelled.
Based on the number of registered participants, 10.1.2026 it is the decisive date for determining whether all the listed courses will be run. In case of cancellation due to insufficient number of registered participants, the deposits for the course will be fully refunded.
Registered clients are encouraged to purchase transportation tickets and incur additional expenses related to participation in the cross country ski expedition course after paying the final invoice, when running the course is certain.

Transportation
Dagali Fjellpark will provide selv-guided group transportation from and to Oslo airport for you included in the price.
Transportation to the cross country ski expedition course
If it is possible within the budget, depending on the number of registered participants, clients will be picked up at Oslo airport by a private minibus on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. as a matter of priority, and transported to the base.
If it is not possible within the budget to order the minibus, clients will receive tickets with instructions and a description of the journey:
- ticket for the train to Geilo – departure on Saturdays for example at 3:43 p.m. from Oslo airport,
- or ticket for the Geilo express bus – departure on Saturdays for example at 1:30 p.m. from Oslo airport.
Both the train and the bus go to Geilo, from where the clients will be picked up by a private minibus and transported to the base.
Transportation from the cross country ski expedition course
If it is possible within the budget, depending on the number of registered participants, clients will be picked up at Dagali Fjellpark by a private minibus on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. as a matter of priority, and transported to Oslo airport.
If it is not possible within the budget to order the minibus, clients will receive tickets with instructions and a description of the journey:
- ticket for the train to Oslo airport – departure on Saturdays for example at 11:40 a.m. from Geilo,
- or ticket for the Geilo express bus – departure on Saturdays for example at 6:30 a.m. from Geilo.
Both the train and the bus go from Geilo, where the clients will be transported by a private minibus from Dagali Fjellpark.
Important provisions about transportation
The final plan for group transportation will be solved after 10.1.2026 based on the registered number of participants. Until then, Dagali Fjellpark do not recommend participants to buy tickets to Norway.
In the case of group transportation by a private minibus, the departure time will be uniformly defined for the whole group. This applies to both transport by a private minibus to and from Oslo Airport and transport by a private minibus to and from Geilo.
Equipment for the cross country ski expedition course
No special equipment for winter camping is needed
The cross country ski expedition course is planned in such a way that packing and the trip to Norway are as convenient as possible for you.
Apart from cross-country ski shoes, the personal equipment list consists of common stuff that every recreational athlete or outdoor enthusiast has, or will certainly use a lot in the future, once in the cupboard. You get loaned the vast majority of expedition and special winter equipment at the base – included in the price.
At the base, you get loaned following necessary personal equipment, that ensures your safety and thermal comfort.
– Cross-country skis (with NNN-BC binding), skins and ski poles,
– Ski pulk sled, pulk harness and pulk bag,
– Snow shovel,
– Sleeping bag (Warmpeace – Viking 1200 or Mountain Hardwear – Lamina) designed for winter camping,
– Sleeping mat (both roll mat and inflatable mat for extra comfort),
– Map of the area with the expedition tour + GPX to phone/watch,
– Rescue phonebook,
– 2 pcs of plastic leg bags.
At the base, you get loaned following necessary shared equipment, which will be divided into ski pulks in accordance with the physical abilities of the participants.
– Expedition tents (Fjallraven – Akka Endurance 4 or Hilleberg – Keron 3 GT) and snow anchors,
– Bivouac sack for two persons,
– Camping cooker stove with cooking equipment,
– Safety gear such as first aid, navigation equipment, repair kits,
– Food for the expedition for the whole group – hot breakfast, tee, coffee, cold lunch and hot dinner – Thai noodle soups, oatmeal, muesli with dried fruit, smoked meat, cheese, knackebrot, adventure menu, vacuum-packed freeze-dried tour food, porridge etc.
Following is the minimum clothing and equipment list for the course. All items not marked as optional are required. You can bring other clothes and equipment in addition to this. It is necessary that you have tested the personal equipment and clothing before the trip, especially trying the cross-country ski boots is important.
– 1 x ski boots compatible with NNN-BC binding, with perfect fit with your waterproof socks, there must be some more space inside for your feet to protect your feet feeling tight (so predisposition for frostbite) when enlarge by activity,
– 40-50L hiking backpack with hip belt,
– 1 x waterproof dry sack for storing and keeping clothes dry in the ski pulk sled,
Winter clothes:
– 1 x windproof and waterproof GoreTex outer layer: pants and jacket with hood,
– 1 x medium insulation layer: thick woolen sweater or fleece jacket,
– 2 x first layer: long-sleeved woolen T-shirts and long-legged woolen longjons,
– 1 x base layer: wool underwear,
– 2 x winter waterproof socks,
– 1 x warm down jacket with a hood to put on during breaks,
– 1 x GoreTex windproof 5-finger gloves,
– 1 x warm boiled wool mittens or down filled mittens,
– 1 x windproof and waterproof mittens for change,
– 1 x thin 5-finger gloves,
– 1 x warm woolen hat that also protects your ears, buff (scarf) and balaclava,
– 1 x thick woolen socks for sleeping,
Winter camping equipment:
– 1 x down booties for winter camping in sleeping bag (optional and highly recommended),
– 1 x gaiters,
– simple liner for sleeping bag or thin sleeping bag to use inside the winter sleeping bag,
– 1 x ski-goggles,
– 1 x glacier glasses (optional),
– 1 x waterproof dry sack for storing and keeping clothes dry in the ski pulk sled,
– 1L thermos flask,
Other personal equipment:
– 1 x spoon,
– snacks to eat between the meals (sweets, dried fruit, nuts, chocolate),
– 1 x head lamp with spare lithium batteries or head lamp with accumulator together with fully charged power bank,
– mobile phone with fully charged power banks to cover everyday use of the phone on the 4-days expedition,
– diary for personal notes during the expedition or something for waiting in tent during a bad weather (optional),
– personal medication,
– valid passport,
– documentation about travel insurance that meets at least Alpenverien standards for rescue,
– sickness insurance documentation,
– toilet articles, toilet paper, small towel and other private equipment,
– sunscreen with UV-A and UV-B,
– lip balm,
– earplugs (optional).
